Performance Evaluation of Industrial Product Development of Software Intensive Systems

In today’s competitive environment, in which competition increases and the pace of technological change accelerates, the need for deploying development investments more efficiently and effectively is stronger than ever. In this context it is important to be able to evaluate the current performance of the product development process in a holistic system perspective, in order to decide on actions for improvement. The research area of performance measurements attract researchers from various areas including software engineering, systems engineering, engineering design, project management, operations management, marketing, management accounting and more. However, there are no commonly accepted methods or even terminology for evaluating performance of the product development process. This makes the possibility to integrate and further build on results from other researchers limited.
